Someone once asked me how I felt about prejudice. “In contrast to what?”, or should I say, “shocking in all its forms.” Initially my response was puzzling. Let me explain. If you were to ask me how I felt about prejudice in the United States I would have to say, “Here, I am very aware of my skin color.” It is no secret that the US has had a long historical battle with racism. I am able to be educated at the collegiate level, due wholly, or in part, to the Civil Rights movement of the 1960’s. It is the reason I am allowed to vote in this country.
Assessment of Postmodernism Works Cited Not Included вЂModernity, on all its sides, may be defined in terms of an aspiration to reveal the essential truth of the world’ (Boyne and Rattansi, 1990). вЂ[In postmodernism] philosophical pillars are brought down, the most notable of which are the вЂunities’ of meaning, theory and the self’ (Hassard and Parker, 1993). In my opinion the above quotes neatly summarise the motivational ideas behind modernism and postmodernism as thought processes.
Kari Frederickson's work, The Dixiecrat Revolt, examined the growing disenchantment of Southern Democrats to the federal government, President Truman, and ultimately, the Democratic Party. These Southern conservatives rebelled against the Democratic Party in the 1948 Presidential election resulting in the eventual political realignment of the South to a twoparty system, and the rise of the Republican Party within that system. The two chapters of Robin D.G. Kelley's book, Race Rebels, studied the rebellion of blacks in Birmingham over the segregated public transportation system.

Schopenhauer, the German pessimist philosopher, wrote in 1851 that only a man overcome by his sexual impulses could have given the name of the fair sex "to that undersized, narrowshouldered, broadhipped and shortlegged race." Despite the many differences between the sexes, from average weight and height to body fat, there has been an assumption that these are only skin deep and that intellect is essentially the same. The recent publications of the latest in a growing body of research demonstrate that our brains are different too and fuel the fear that science may provide an antidote to demands for women's emancipation: if male dominance is all the nature's fault, then patriarchy is inevitable.

Bellamy's Looking Backward: Utopia or Fantasy? Although Edward Bellamy's twentieth century society in Looking Backward appears to be the perfect utopia, it could never exist. The very factors that Bellamy claimed contributed to the society's establishment and success are, in reality, what would lead to its failure. The twentieth century society lacked the possibility for advancements in technology while at the same time lacking competition and appropriate incentives. Even if we ignore these faults, we observe that when Bellamy created his society for Looking Backward, he made several false assumptions about human behavior and failed to realize that the only way his society could be imposed would be involuntarily.

Thompson said the land dispute was a “trivial matter at most” (Becman) according to Reign of the Vigilantes, most people would disagree with that statement and would not consider someone building a fence across their yard or property as a trivial matter.

Twain was limited in expressing his thoughts by the fact that Huck Finn is a living, breathing person who is telling the story. Since the book is written in first person, Twain had to put himself in the place of a thirteenyearold son of the town drunkard.

Anthony Burgess’ A Clockwork Orange Linguistic Differences in the Film and Novel A Clockwork Orange, written by Anthony Burgess, is experienced differently as a novel than it is as the movie directed by Stanley Kubrick. The heart of the difference between the two forms is expressed by Bakhtin: "The potential for [вЂdoublevoiced discourse’ between the author and narrator] is one of the most fundamental privileges of novelistic prose, a privilege available neither to dramatic nor to purely poetic genres" (Bakhtin, 320).1 An entire dimension of the novel’s story is lost in the movie when Alex’s role is reduced from narrator to commentator.
